You could certainly be forgiven for forgetting about a certain annual FH.ca tradition. In all the excitement of the past week I myself had nearly forgotten.

But allow me to bring a little bit more joy into your lives to add to the fact that our beloved Flames have clinched a playoff spot:

It's time for the 9th annual Playoff Prediction Bet Thingy!

I'm s3c0ndh4nd, and as always I'll be your trustworthy guide on this two month journey of prognostication.

Last year, Luna led the competition from wire to wire, rewriting the record book en route to his first Playoff Prediction Bet Thingy Cup. Who will it be this year? Can perennial contender Stewie finally capture his first championship? Will Pucky recapture her old form which saw her win the 2008 competition? Will FON finish better than 7th? These questions and many more will be answered over the next two months!

If you've forgotten the rules, they've been reproduced for you below with one minor alteration from last year.

As always, there are three types of predictions you'll have to make:

1. Matchup predictions:

Prior to the start of each round you’ll predict the winners of each series, and in how many games that team will win the series. In the first round, if you predict the winner of a series correctly, you get one (1) point. If you predict the winner and number of games correctly, you get three (3) points. If you only predict the number of games correctly, you get zero (0) points.

To compensate for the diminishing amount of teams playing as the playoffs go along, the points you earn for each correct prediction goes up after each round.

In round one: 1/3
In round two: 2/6
Round three: 3/9
Round four: 4/12

2. Special predictions:

At the beginning of the playoffs, you’ll make predictions for the following:

Divisional Winners (Worth two points each)

Eastern Conference Winner (Worth 4 points)

Western Conference Winner (Worth 4 points)

Stanley Cup Winner (Worth 8 points)

Top Scorer (In terms of points) (Worth 5 points)

Top Goalie (In terms of SV%. Goalie must make it to the Conference Finals and play at least half of his team's games to be eligible) (Worth 5 points)

Dark Horse - Pick a wildcard team that you think has the potential to pull off some upsets. You get 4 points for every series your dark horse wins. *Change from 2014: Dark horse teams will receive four points per round that they advance rather than three.

3. Bonus Predictions:

On most days, I'll ask a simple question about the following day's action. For example, I might ask something like "Who will win tomorrow? Montreal or Ottawa?" Point values will vary, but typically they'll be worth one point each at the beginning, and increase in value as time goes on. As a general rule, I will avoid asking questions about the Flames if at all possible.

TIEBREAKING PROCEDURE:
In the event of a tie between two or more players, the winner will be the person who had the most points after the 3rd round. If any parties are still tied, the winner will be the person who had the most points after the 2nd round. If any parties are still tied, the winner will be the person who had the most points after the 1st round. In the unlikely event that any parties remain tied at this point, they will share the Playoff Prediction Bet Thingy Cup.

Matchups have yet to be determined, so there's nothing you can do just yet. Following tomorrow's games I'll put up a template for you folks to use when entering in your first round predictions.

And in case anyone's concerned, as a general rule I will *not* ask bonus questions about the Flames. :P

Good luck to you all!

Took a little while, but matchups are now set. Let us begin! If you're playing, please post your round one series predictions (winner as well as number of games) and your special predictions now. For your convenience, you may use this handy template:

CENTRAL:

#1 St. Louis vs. W1 Minnesota -
#2 Nashville vs. #3 Chicago -

PACIFIC:

#1 Anaheim vs. W2 Winnipeg -
#2 Vancouver vs. #3 Calgary - (Note, you may elect to leave this one blank if you're afraid of a jinx. You'll miss out on a potential three points but in the long run that's no big deal)

ATLANTIC:

#1 Montreal vs. W1 Ottawa -
#2 Tampa Bay vs. #3 Detroit -

METROPOLITAN

#1 New York Rangers vs. W2 Pittsburgh -
#2 Washington vs. #3 New York Islanders -

Central Winner:
Pacific Winner: (Note, Winnipeg is included in the Pacific for this prediction due to the crossover)
Atlantic Winner:
Metropolitan Winner:
Western Conference Champion:
Eastern Conference Champion:
Stanley Cup Champion:

Top Scorer (in terms of points):
Top Goalie (in terms of SV%):
Dark Horse (Must be a wildcard team):

The schedule hasn't gone up yet, but I believe the playoffs begin on Wednesday, April 15th. As such, the tentative due date for predictions is April 15th at 5:00 MT. Good luck!

Two days remain, and only two entries are in thus far. Codes, Drak, Luna, FON, F23, you're on the clock!

I admire your enthusiasm and optimism, but the Flames are not in fact a wild card team. You have a choice between the Sens, Penguins, Wild, and your beloved Jets. :P

Alrighty, first question of the playoffs:

Which team will score first tomorrow? Ottawa or Montreal? One point if you're right.

Less than 22 hours remain for anyone else who wants to jump aboard.
