Round 5 - Ryan "Don't Call Me Macaulay" Culkin

Image

Quote:
A hard-working two-way blue liner, Culkin has steadily improved during his time in the QMJHL. A strong skater with a low panic threshold, these skills serve him well at both ends of the ice. Sometimes guilty of trying to do too much on the ice, he has good size and has become more confident moving the puck as well as carrying it on the rush.

Nice work putting this all together, Stewie.

I was gone to Fairmont Hotsprings for the draft, and had spotty internetz access, so I wasn't able to chat with you guys much about it.

Initially I was pretty upset with selecting Jankowski in the 1st round, but it was apparent that this player was the Flames' top priority. So they got their guy, and they obviously feel very strongly about his potential. At this point we will have to wait and see if he develops into Joe 2.0. We can only hope.

As for the rest of our picks, they all seem fairly solid, and I'm stoked we were able to draft them where we did.

Overall, this draft was a weird one to call. I'll be interested to see how the development goes.

Get this.

The Islanders offered ALL of their 2012 draft picks to Columbus for #2 overall.

All. Of. Them.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=635992

Quote:
How badly did New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow want to move up two spots in this year's NHL Draft? Enough to give up all of his team's picks, according to a report.

Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson selected defenseman Ryan Murray with the second pick Friday night in Pittsburgh, but Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reported Monday that the Jackets could've dropped to the No. 4 spot held by the Islanders -- and added six other picks -- if the deal was completed.

The Islanders reportedly offered the Blue Jackets picks Nos. 4, 34, 65, 103, 125, 155 and 185 for just the No. 2 pick. That would have given the Jackets a total of 12 picks -- Nos. 4, 31, 34, 62, 65, 95, 103, 125, 152, 155, 182 and 185.

It's crazy, but I kind of think Columbus should have taken that offer.

Draft looks OK to me other than the time it will take for these kids to come down the pipe. Gotta start building up prospects somewhere though It's just that with a sparse chance of picking up some impactful ufas (Parise, Suter, Nash....) to change our competitiveness for the better, it could be more of the same for the next few years.

Sven is our shining light, I hope the pressure doesn't burn him out.

Islanders can't stay shitty for much longer IMO. They have some good players there, remind me of the Oilers (how can they be so perennially bad?). It is the organization I guess.

They always put the year on the jerseys they give to the drafted players. Since this year is 2012...

:D
